Gridline Block of the Month

A 13 month Block by Block exploration of the beautiful vintage craft of Chicken Scratch hand embroidery.

What exactly is Chicken Scratch embroidery?

This vintage needlework, always stitched on a base of gingham fabric, has been around for many years, and is known worldwide by many different names. In 2021, when I had no studio or really any space to work after our family moved from Seattle, Washington to Santa Fe, New Mexico, I rediscovered a piece of vintage Chicken Scratch embroidery and quickly became obsessed!

At the end of that year, I asked folks who followed my work if anyone would like to do a Block of the Month with me, all focused on Chicken Scratch embroidery. I heard a resounding yes, and together we created our first Chicken Scratch embroidered quilts, all while learning so many different things about this wonderful hand embroidery technique

The new Block of the Month, which I've named Gridline, is really a culmination of everything I have learned in the many hours I've spent stitching Chicken Scratch. And I can't wait to show you how to do it too! Its is so relaxing, so approachable, so meditative. Prepare to be hooked just as I am.

What is this Block of the Month

You will learn 12 original Chicken Scratch embroidery stitch patterns, month by month. These are a combination of the classic stitch combination that creates vintage Chicken Scratch embroidery patterns, as well as ones that I have created just for this Block of the Month. For 13 months, you will receive a PDF with an illustration and details on the month's stitch pattern, as well as a video demo from me. You will be able to upload images of your work, ask questions to me and the other stitchers. We will also have the opportunity to meet together online throughout the BOM to share each other's progress.

All delivered in a manageable pace that you will be sure to enjoy.

The Gridline BOM program includes-

  • Lessons, PDF pattern templates, and video demonstrations for 12 different chicken scratch stitch patterns.
