Gridline Block of the Month
A 13 month Block by Block exploration of the beautiful vintage craft of Chicken Scratch hand embroidery.
What exactly is Chicken Scratch embroidery?
This vintage needlework, always stitched on a base of gingham fabric, has been around for many years, and is known worldwide by many different names. In 2021, when I had no studio or really any space to work after our family moved from Seattle, Washington to Santa Fe, New Mexico, I rediscovered a piece of vintage Chicken Scratch embroidery and quickly became obsessed!
At the end of that year, I asked folks who followed my work if anyone would like to do a Block of the Month with me, all focused on Chicken Scratch embroidery. I heard a resounding yes, and together we created our first Chicken Scratch embroidered quilts, all while learning so many different things about this wonderful hand embroidery technique
The new Block of the Month, which I've named Gridline, is really a culmination of everything I have learned in the many hours I've spent stitching Chicken Scratch. And I can't wait to show you how to do it too! Its is so relaxing, so approachable, so meditative. Prepare to be hooked just as I am.
